The regents' executive director coordinates preparation and submission of legislative bills authorized by the board; monitors the progress of legislation affecting higher education; provides reports to the board, the presidents, and superintendents; and presents testimony - as authorized by the Board of Regents - on legislation that affects the public higher education system.


Higher Education Policy in the News:

 

April 4, 2013 – The South Dakota Board of Regents approved tuition and mandatory fees for the upcoming academic year. The impact to students in the public university system is an average cost increase of $334.88 per year, or 4.4 percent.

 

April 9, 2013 – State employees who take college courses at one of three off-campus public university centers in South Dakota will soon receive the same tuition break as their counterparts pursuing coursework on campus.

 

April 3, 2013 -- According to a report presented to the South Dakota Board of Regents, the Governor’s Research Centers continue to meet their goals for accelerating growth of competitive research and strengthening South Dakota’s economy through emphasis on converting ideas to commercial endeavors.
